Fashionista
I have been in Melbourne for almost nine months now since February 2009, and I couldn’t help but noticed that Melbourne is in fact, the fashion capital of Australia. I did notice many Melburnians are more fashionable than Sydneysiders (no hard feelings on that), but I too, couldn’t ignore the fact that some fashion styles are becoming more and more raunchy. In case you wondered why I write this in the first place, I too, am a fairly fashion-conscious guy (well, at least you should’ve known by know that I AM actually a guy).
I have to warn you though, what I’m going to write in the next few paragraphs might not be as relaxed or composed or neutral as I always did. I might put some things that are debatable and controversial, and please do not use the comments section to spark a flame war.
Fashion over the last few decades (I’ll admit I’m only in my 20s but I know about fashion waaaay back) have developed from a way to represent social status into something to express individual styles. It went from wearing those jeans on your belly button to what we call nowadays hipster jeans. It also went from wearing those t-shirt to what we call now tanktops. Even jeans went into evolution as well, from the standard jeans as we know, to loosely bagged jeans popular in the early 2000s (heck, we are still in the 2000s), to what we now see almost anywhere, skinny jeans. My point? Fashion evolved. And if you noticed, it evolved into a tightly fitted one.
In the past two or three months, I’ve been noticing something new. What’s that I see her wearing? Leggings? No, and obviously it’s not jeans. It’s what those fashion magazines call jeans leggings, or jeggings, for short. I don’t know how they came up with that ridiculous name, don’t ask me. One thing that I know of, that people wearing jeggings inappropriately should get their head checked. And yeah, I do emphasize on the word inappropriately.
First of all, leggings and all of its subsidiary are NOT pants, IF not worn appropriately. I’ve seen too many cases (and I believe you too) of accidental cameltoe. And girls, if you really don’t want your private parts to be exposed, don’t even bother to wear it. And just in case you ever wonder about it, no, us guys don’t want to see your private parts. Again I emphasize on appropriateness here, which means that I don’t mind people wearing leggings or jeggings, but with appropriate clothes, that at least cover her private areas.
Second, I don’t know why, but most of the time I saw girls wearing those leggings exposing their bums and front parts (if you get my drift, which I believe you do) are well, sorry to say, big girls. I’m not criticizing whether being big is good or bad, me myself is quite a big guy, but I do criticize of their choice of fashion. Again, no one wants to see your private parts, girl, and I don’t think anyone would ever want to see your excess fat wrapped tightly in those leggings.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate the product. I have a girlfriend who likes to wear leggings as well, and I don’t mind about her wearing it as long as her clothes cover her private area. I don’t care whether the leggings are transparent or not (jeggings, for instance), but please with full respect, cover up your private parts. But then again, the decision is all yours, whether to love it, or hate it. We are all fashionistas after all. See you next post..!
